The leaders in the National Institute of Health play an important role is shaping the agencies different research plans and activities. The NIH is made up of twenty different centers and institutes each focusing on a different body system or disease of the body requiring their own research agenda. According to the National Institute of Health more than eighty percent of its budget goes to research; funds are granted to over two thousand five hundred universities or research institutions and financially supporting more than three hundred thousand research personnel. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine is one of the twenty seven institutes/ centers that make up the National Institutes of Health. Keeping the theme of the NIH, National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine also keeps research goals and objectives specifically to â€Å"enable better evidence-based decision making regarding complementary and alternative medicine use and its integration into health care and health promotion.† (National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine) The mission of NCCAM is to investigate the â€Å"usefulness and safety† of alternative and complementary medicine and the roles they could possibly play in improving health of the nation and our healthcare system by advance research on mind and body interventions,
